It seems every person is fighting for control. Whether it is control of their lives or the things in their life, they are fighting for something. Growing up people look forward to making their own choices instead of someone making choices for them. Then college comes, with it the choice of a career and a life work. Some people pick up addictions that harm the health, which they want to get ride of. Eventually people get a house of their own. In which will have a heater and an air conditioner to keep the house at the right temperature: not to hot, and not to cold. Also people do what they can to keep out any ants, flies, or other bugs. Time is another big control issue. People try to control their time with schedules and planners. Their days are in accordance to what the clock and calendar says.
As Christians we made the choice to give God control of our lives at one point in time. Hopefully though, it was not just a one time thing. God calls for complete control of our lives. Not just once a week when we go to church but all the time. Every thought, action, or word spoken should be in tune with our Creator.
So many times, things go differently than planned. It is easy then to be frustrated and not understand why things did not work out the way they were intended. Maybe though, that is because it was not what God had planned. Sometimes there is an area in someone’s life where they have not given God complete control. God then likes to take them out of the environment they are in, so that they will have to trust completely on God. Look at the examples in the Bible, like when Joseph was stripped from his home and sold as a slave. Moses left Egypt to go take care of sheep in the wilderness for forty years. Daniel and his friends were captives in a foreign land. Each of them went through trials and tribulation to test who they would let control their lives. If they went through all of that, then why do we as Christians expect everything to be smooth sailing?
This school year I have spent serving in Peru. Though it may sound like something amazing, I am just following where God leads. Slowly I am learning to give God complete control of my life. Even though I am not at home with all the comforts and distractions, every day has many choices. Dear God, please help me to always choose You, no matter what you have planned for my life.
