Everyone keeps complaining about how cold it is here in Collegedale. I'll admit it has been colder than normal around here but we are still missing something...THE SNOW!!! When I went running on Sunday, there were a few flurries here and there in the air. Every time the topic comes up, I always say "I am hoping we get a foot or two." I love the reaction of the southern people that do not know what real snow is. It would be a lot of fun to see Collegedale just shut down because people don't know what to do when there is white stuff on the ground. The most opportune time for this would be right before finals. I wouldn't mind not having to take them as well as many other students. If this were to happen, a person would be sure to see people grabbing cafeteria trays and finding the closest hill to go down.
At my home in Syracuse, there is 36 inches on the ground. It has been snowing for the past 100 hours. For the past three days we have had record snowfalls of 8-12 inches in a day. We are supposed to get 5-8 inches today, 4-6 inches tonight, but then only 1-3 inches tomorrow. I talked to my dad on the phone, and he said this morning my parents were waiting for 2 ladies that were running on the road to go by (that had 6 inches on it), and then the snow plow had to go around them. Lately is has been snowing an inch an hour, and my house has gotten 50 inches out of this one storm so far (snow packs down with the weight of the new snow on the old snow). Syracuse averages 120 inches of snowfall a year and is #1 as the snowiest city in the US (inches of snowfall in relation to population). My house typically gets more snow than where they officially take the measurements at the airport. Just north 20 miles in Oswego, they sometimes get twice as much as the airport. We are just in the right position geographically to get a lot of lake effect snow. I can not wait to be home and in the snow since Collegedale is lacking it. How can people have Christmas and Christmas lights outside with no snow?
