Snow Day!!

Southern finally has a snow day while I am here at Southern. Monday classes were canceled on Sunday evening when there was no snow on the ground. Then last night we got a good 4 inches. So what did I do with all this extra time? Well the night before I decided that I follow my training schedule for the 50 mile trail race. So today while everyone else acted like they have not seen snow before and was at the center of campus having snowball fights, making snowmans, or sledding down hills with cafeteria trays...I went running.

And running I did. I ran for 3 hours today, to the total of 19.2 miles. It was an interesting run, like none other. I expected not many cars to be out, so I chose a rout that normally has a lot of traffic on one of the roads. My first experience while running came with a girl on the passenger side of the vehicle sticking her hand out the window giving me a thumbs up and smiling. Then I had many people wave to me and one car honked and the driver waved. The cars on the roads were going regular speed except for a few grandpas. At about the half way point of the first loop, there was a guy taking pictures of his house and the snow. Then as I got closer, he turned the camera toward me and took some pictures of me running. Snow is rare in Collegedale but I guess what is even more rare is people running in the snow. I must be famous. As I came to the end of the first loop, I saw 2 friends that were sledding down a hill and talked to one briefly. Then as I was approaching Southern, campus safety was driving by and slowed down to talk to me. He told me to be safe and watch out for the cars. I told him that I was. On the middle of my second loop, I had another car slow down to my pace to talk to me. This time a guy said, "Do you need a ride or are you just exercising?" I replied, "Exercising man!" His comment before he drove off was, "You are better than me."

So I had a very interesting run. And recently I just found out that Southern has canceled classes for tomorrow. Yeah!!
